Silly, Yet Serious: “SuperColon” Helps Hospitals Promote Cancer Prevention Message
We first spotted a “SuperColon” ™ article in a small town community newspaper. Who wouldn’t want to “take a stroll through a giant colon: an inflatable pink tunnel, lined with healthy tissue, abnormal growths, protruding polyps, and informative facts.”
One of the world’s largest, most elaborate models of the human body is definitely attention getting. And that’s exactly the kind of hospital and healthcare marketing and PR material that the media loves. Plus, if you want to use the “SuperColon” exhibit, it could be part of a community health fair, patient information event or facility open house.
If you’re having trouble tuning in on a mental picture, there’s a terrific “walk through” tour on this page from The Doctors TV program. For further inspiration, click through here to a YouTube video of the Prevent Cancer SuperColon in action in Deland, FL, sponsored by Florida Hospital, Deland. Or this video from the health fair at the Medical Center of the Rockies in Loveland, CO.
It turns out that the SuperColon exhibit gets around. It’s been crisscrossing the country since 2005 to connect with local hospitals, community wellness events, and health fairs to raise local awareness about colorectal cancer.
The local sponsor partners with the national Prevent Cancer Foundation’s educational outreach. The traveling exhibit seems to be a popular, up-close-and-personal device, and a natural to combine with local physicians, healthcare experts and speakers, literature, screening reminders and healthy eating advice. The no-pun-intended bottom-line message is that colorectal cancer is “preventable, treatable and beatable.”
If you think the SuperColon™ exhibit might have a place in your hospital or healthcare marketing and community relations plan, there’s a lot more information and rental cost available here on the Prevent Cancer website. They make your task easier with several public relations and event promotion tools, including examples of a media alert, public service announcement, event flyer and sample talking points.
And for further help in growing your hospital’s reputation through branding and publicity.
